Joining a research laboratory is optional, but it provides opportunities to learn techniques beyond those taught in laboratory courses.<\/p>\n

Beginning in the 2025\u20132026 academic year, students must choose one of three career exploration options: research projects, seminar courses, or industry internships. Students are encouraged to find a laboratory that matches their interests. Seminar courses provide another option for students who have different plans or do not intend to continue in a chemistry-related field.<\/p>\n

Most students join a laboratory during the summer between their second and third years.
